Tuesday's "New Team" meeting
14 MSWHL members attended.

The Board went over some points of emphasis in the MSWHL handbook (see the MSWHL.com website for your version). It is the team's responsibility to know the rules therein.

The process of rostering and registration was reviewed. Team *must* have a copy of their official USA Hockey roster (signed and sealed) to Ann Dobija, League President, by 9/30/08 or BEFORE THEIR FIRST GAME. Failure to be legally registered is a league offense, a MAHA/USA Hockey offense, and opens you up to other possible penalties.

Other key dates were reviewed (these are in your handbook).

Scorekeeping: Please make sure that a responsible person is completing the scoresheets for your games. Teams can play a game with only one referee but both teams should sign the scoresheet agreeing to this condition *before* the game begins. Teams that travel to tournaments/exhibition games in Canada should check to be sure they are sanctioned events and should be sure to get the appropriate travel permit from MAHA *before* going to the event. Adult teams must designated someone as their coach for each game (player/coach is fine but if your team takes 15 penalties in a game, the player/coach will be the individual sitting "coach" penalties). Adult team coaches do not have to be certified, as the youth team coaches do. However, please realize that your coach is expected to be your team's representative and choose wisely.

Weather conditions/canceling games: Please note that the bottom line condition for travel is in our handbook (The National Weather Service). In most cases, teams are asked to resolve game scheduling issues between themselves. If you change a game, please notify your division director. If you *must* cancel a game, please be sure you have made every attempt to reach the other team (including multiple calls, emails, calls to the rink, etc.). No one enjoys the surprise (and added costs) of a surprise cancellation.

The Board reiterated their commitment to working on refining the Complaint form. Please use this form for concerns that are off-ice in nature. On-ice situations (e.g., referee calls) are not appropriate for this form.
Remember that the league doubles game misconduct penalties (again, please refer to the MSWHL Handbook for more information.)

Goalie Sub List - goaltenders interested in being part of the goalie sub list should send Lisa Mello (ltmello@bf.umich.edu) their information. This will be posted on the website so teams can locate a substitute goaltender quickly.

The Ruicci Cup (our league tournament) will be March 19-21,2009 at Eddie Edgar arena.

All agreed that the 1.5 hr spent was worth the effort. The Board will hold similar events again next season.
